We wanted to try the branch at Lucky Plaza but it closed down. There is another branch at far east plaza, which we took a short walk over. I had craving for Indonesian food, after asking around my friend. I was told that this place was rather popular.
Surabaya (formerly spelled as Soerabaja) is Indonesia’s second-largest city, and the capital of the province of East Java. It is also one of the biggest cities in Southeast Asia. Enough of history stuff.
Drinks! I wanted to try the avocado juice but it is sold out. We tried the chendol and ice coconut instead. The chendol was somehow different from the onces at the food court. It has very fragrant gula melaka taste and had a generous amount of filling of agar agar, red bean and corn. The coconut is slight too thick for my liking maybe it is the original way of making it. The ice coconut is nice, drink base was rose syrup and has slices of coconut, a quite nice combination.
Next up! Main dish. The ayma penyet means fried smashed chicken, basically they smashed it first and then fried the chicken. The chicken meat is nicely seasoned, and it was deep fried. The surface of the chicken was crispy but the meat was really tender. I like the crunchy bits that we served with the dished. One word of caution, the chili that came with it was really really i mean really hot. Next dish is tahu telor, it means fried egg with tou fu and served with satay sauce. I like both the texture and taste of the dish, very special. More to the oily side but when you mix the it with satay sauce, sensuous experience.
The food served here was quite authentic. The chili , the taste, the seasoning, the drinks, all reminds me of the time when i was in medan (Indonesia). Overall the food is quite reasonable, S$18 dollar for 2 dish + rice and 2 desert.
